Description: rhodium plated base metal, rhinestones, enamelling
Marked: Trifari with Crown, Pat Pend
Reference: Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 2, p. 75. Women's Wear Daily, 17 March 1939, p 22, featured recent New York press adverts for lapel pins, including this one for Saks Fifth Ave; click thumbnail above to view advertisement. The advert misstates the proverb - March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb. The "Odds of March" tagline was the addition of the WWD copy writer, apparently not linked to Trifari or Saks. Patent is reproduced below (scroll down); designer A Philippe, filed 4 March, granted 4 April 1939
