Description: goldwashed base metal, rhinestones, enamelling
Marked: North West Mounted Police, Cecil B DeMille, C (plaque, on Texas Ranger)
Reference: Like the Korda 'Thief of Bagdad' and 'Jungle Book' series, this is jewelry inspired by and promoting a film - 'North West Mounted Police', 1940, directed by DeMille, starring Gary Cooper as the Texas Ranger. Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 2, p 159 has another piece from the series. Advertised for sale at Auerbachs, identifying the manufacturer as Coro, in the Salt Lake [City UT] Tribune, 15 Dec 1940, p 24; click thumbnail above to view advertisement. The pins were shown separately, the Texas Ranger with a lasso rather than a captive chain. See COR1852, with both the DeMille plaque and a Coro signature, confirming the advert's attribution.
