Reference: Mark, design, construction, and use of Sterling date this to 1944-45, before the Boucher serial numbers begin. Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 1, p 61, this pin clip with blue topaz stones, wrongly dated and associated with the later 1946 patent (as Brunialti says, some examples have '2355' stamped on, which is a 1945 date); see ibid pp. 62-63 for the 'extraordinary' 1944-45 series of stylized pins, with these square stones, to which this piece belongs. Advertised for sale at Maas Brothers, price $35, in the Tampa [FL] Tribune, 25 Mar 1945, p 9; click thumbnail above to view advertisement. A variant design, with coral or turquoise cabochons was later patented in Dec 1945, granted July 1946 (Des Pat No 145151); this was twice as expensive, being sold in Jan 1946 for $69.50 plus tax - for the advert see BOU2048.
